Louis was born June 25, 1860 in New York to Joseph Underwood and Margaret Sheehy, both of New York. The informant was Emma Underwood of the same address in Kansas City. He was a railroad cashier. The burial ws to be in Rochester, New York.

In 1910 Kansas City, this Louis is 50, married 17 years to Emma K. 47 (they said it was the first marriage for both) William and Arthur are both 16, both born in New York.
Louis 1860-1915 is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester # 168721708.
(So is Joseph H. Underwood, dying in 1865 # 34120709.)

In 1910 Armstrong, Pennsylvania, Fred is a railroad ticket agent, 29, married six years to Mabel R. 30, with Irene S. 9, both born in Pennsylvania.


Possibly the 1911 "F.R. Underwood" assigned to the telegraph station at Arcadia, Nebraska.

In 1914 F.R. Underwood, the agent at Norman, Nebraska "has invested in a new car, but hasn't got a card yet."

Frederick claimed two quarters in 20 and 29, 10N 48W in 1919.


In 1920 Fleming, Colorado, Fred is a bookkeeper, 37, Mabel 42 a dressmaker. They have five boarders.

In 1930 McCook, Nebraska, Fred is a census enumerator, 48, Mabel 50.

Fred R. Underwood married Elma A. Casady on February 2, 1935 in Denver.

In 1940 Fred 57, and Elma 45, are in Benkelman, Nebraska. His occupation is "Blank"
Frederick registered for WWII in Greeley, with his reference Mrs. Lynn Vaughn of Murray, Nebraska, unemployed.

Frederick 1881-1950 is buried in Fort Morgan # 73087660.
May 5, 1950 "Fred R. Underwood, 68, died at his home at Kersey Thursday morning, after an illness of several months. He was a retired Burlington railroad agent. Born Aug. 5, 1881 in New York, Mr. Underwood had lived at Kersey since 1943. He was a member of the American Legion post 17 at Sidney, Nebr., Occidental lodge AF and M, of Greeley and BPOB of Greeley.
Survivors are wife, Mrs. Elma Underwood of Kersey; a step-son Orville G. Casady of Fort Morgan; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Gladys Dixon of Fort Morgan and Mrs. Vera M. Howard of Fort Collins. Funeral services will he held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday Rfternooi from the Jolllffe Mortuary at Fort Morgan."

1960 "A letter was read from a former member of the Kersey Garden club, Elma Underwood, who now lives at Fort Collins."

Lynn and Irene Vaughn are farming in Logan County in 1920, with Callie five months old.

Lynn Vaughn and Sarah I. Underwood had Laura Rhetta Vaughn on April 23, 1921 in McCook, Nebraska.
She was Babbitt in 1940, and as Older in 2002.


In 1930 Red Willow County, Nebraska, Lynn Vaughn is farming, 32, Irene S. 26, with Callie M. 10 born in Colorado, Lara P. 8 in Nebraska, and Paul 5 in Colorado.

In 1940 Nemaha County, Nebraska, Lynn Vaughn is a farm laborer, 42, born in Nebraska. Irene is 39, born in Pennsylvania, with Paul 15, born in Colorado, Lynn R. 9 in Nebraska, and Donald R. 2 in Idaho. They had been in McCook in 1935.

Sarah Irean Vaughn 1901-1959 is buried in Hiawatha # 168789598, with Lynn 1896-1984 # 168789535.

May 1, 1959 "Mrs. Sarah Irene Vaughn, 57, was killed yesterday when she stepped in front of a car while carrying her 19-month-old " granddaughter across U. S. 36. The little girl was held under observation at Hiawatha Hospital but apparently was not hurt."

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Platte Woods Methodist Church for Laura Rhetta Babbitt Older, 81, Kansas City, Mo. She died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002.
Among survivors is her husband, Everett "Bill" Older, at home; a daughter, Shirley Saving, Kansas City; two sons, Keith Babbitt, Kearney, Neb., and Larry Babbitt, Douglas, Wyo. 3073583102 ; a sister, Callie Young, Kansas City; two brothers, Robert Vaughn, Hiawatha, and Donald Vaughn, Kansas City; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hiawatha Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kan.
McGilley Antioch Chapel in Kansas City, Mo., is in charge of Missouri arrangements. Casselman-Meek Funeral Home in Hiawatha is in charge of Kansas arrangements.

Laura R. Babbitt 1921-2002 is buried in Hiawatha, Kansas # 100856084, with Donald 1918-1995 # 65081859.

They had Shirley E. I. Vaughn on October 22, 1939, who married Howard L. Smalley on September 16, 1957 in Kansas City.

Paul Frederick Vaughn 1924-2000 is buried in Hiawatha, Kansas # 168632631, with Elizabeth ZM. 1926-1982.
His obituary said he was born April 26, 1924 at Holyoke, Colorado, and died in Kansas City.


Callie Emma Young, 96, a longtime resident of Pleasant Valley, joined her Lord and Savior, as well as her husband of 68 years, in heaven on February 18, 2016. All services will be Monday, Feb. 22, at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 4330 North Oak Tfwy., Kansas City, MO. Visitation and a reception for friends and family will begin at 1:30 p.m. A funeral celebrating Callie's life will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to New Hope Church of the Nazarene.

Callie was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Haxtun, Colorado, the eldest of five children of Lynn and Sarah Irean (Martin) Vaughn. Along with her parents, Callie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, three brothers, and a sister. She worked all her adult life, most recently for 20 years as a retail clerk for the Jones Store Company. Callie was proud to be a charter member of New Hope Church of the Nazarene for 64 years. Survivors include her children, Janice Chaney (Charles, deceased), Susan Mahoney (Bob), Sonja Farrand (Bob), DeWayne Young (Janice) and Sandy Carlson (Bob); 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, five great- great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald R. Vaughn, 74, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011, at North Kansas City Hospital.
He was born September 24, 1937, in Nampa, Idaho, the son of Lynn Vaughn and Sarah Irean Martin . On March 14,1959 in Leeton, MO he married Doris Mae Ritter, who surives the home.
Mr. Vaughn was a bread route man, worked for Lock Joint Pipe Company, 7Up Bottling Company, and Dodds Trucking as a local driver. He then joined Jones Truck Line where he retired. He served his country in the United States Air Force as a chef.
Don was an avid bowler and golfer. For those who knew him he was always watching the ball, and he was a die hard KU Sports Fan. He also loved spending time with his family and helping in anyway possible.
Don was a member of Randolph Baptist Church. He was baptised January 21, 1990. He was loved by all his family, and will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by a son Phillip L. Vaughn, Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, Darenda I. Webb, 816-419-2566 Kansas City, Missouri; 1 grandson, David L. Bennett Jr. and his wife Debra, Kansas City, Missouri; 1 great granddaughter Briahna J. Bennett (Fancy Pants); 1 brother, Robert Vaughn, Hiawatha, Kansas; 1 sister Callie Young, Pleasant Valley, Missouri; and also had many Nieces and Nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother Paul F. Vaugh, and 1 sister, Laura Babbitt, Kansas City, Missouri.

Doris Mae (Ritter) Vaughn,73, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Saturday, December 21,2013, at North Kansas City Hospital. Visitation service will be from 4- 6pm Sunday,December 29, 2013 at DW Newcomer's White Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 11am Monday December 30, 2013 at the Funeral Home.

Doris is survived by, son Phillip Vaughn, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Darenda Webb, Kansas City, MO; David Bennett and his wife Debra, Liberty, MO; great granddaughter Briahna Bennett; brother Mason Ritter, Bettendorf, IA; sister Betty Kennedy, Bettendorf, IA; sister Wanda Bradley, Leeton, MO; brother Robert Ritter, Leeton, MO; and she also had many Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Vaughn of the home.


Lynn Robert 'Bob' Vaughn, 84, of Hiawatha died shortly after arrival at Hiawatha Community Hospital, Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2015.
Bob was born at McCook, Nebraska, November 10, 1930, one of five children born to Lynn and Sarah Jean Underwood Vaughn. The family moved to Idaho a few years before locating to Brown County where Bob had lived nearly all of his life.
Bob and Frances Bindle were married May 23, 1948, at Horton. They were over the road truck drivers for different freight companies for many years before retiring after her death in 2000. A few years after her death, he moved to Maple Grove Senior Apartments to live until moving to Maple Heights Nursing Home recently.
Survivors include a son Steven (Janet) Vaughn of Hiawatha; two daughters: Pat (Delbert) Larson of Hiawatha, LaDonna (Stanley) Korthanke of Kearny, Missouri; a daughter in law Karen Vaughn of Nebraska City, Nebraska; a sister Callie Young of Pleasant Valley, Missouri; ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Bob was also preceded in death by his parents; son Michael in 2001; a grandson Troy Korthanke in 1980; a sister Laura Babbitt; two brothers: Paul and Donnie.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Friday, November 6, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Pastor Greg Pudwill officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

CASADY FAMILY - Fred's second wife -

John Alvin Casady, son of David Casady and Mary J. Lotta, born in Jefferson Couty, Iowa, married Elma A. Greson on March 4, 1897 in Jefferson County, Iowa. She was the daughter of William Greeson and Elizabeth Farmer, also born in Jefferson County.

John Alvin Casady and Elma Greeson had Gladys on November 7, 1901 in Wapello County, Iowa.

In 1910 Jefferson County, Iowa, John is 36, Elma A. 37, Vera M. 11, Gladys I. 8, and Orville G. 7.

Vera May Casady married William Earl Howard on February 20, 1919 in Morgan County.

John and Elma are in Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1920, with Gladys 18 and Orville 16.

William Greeson 1872-1909 is buried in Keokuk County, # 67745468. His obituary says that daughter Mrs. J.A. Casady was living in Woolson, Iowa. Elizabeth 1830-1911 is also buried in Keokuk County # 67745511. [they're in the Friends Cemetery in Richland, the land of which was given by my gggg Samuel and Abigail Woodward - mdm].

In 1900 Wapello County, Iowa, John, born June 1873, with Elma March 1873, have Vera June 1898.

John's mother Mary Jane Latta had first married Levi Courtney 1830-1866 buried in Jefferson County. They had Margaret and Idelle. Then she married David Casady, born about 1842 in Iowa. They had Amelia in 1869, Clara about 1873, and John about 1874.


Elma A. Casady Underwood 1873-1962 is buried in Fort Morgan # 73087706, on the same stone as John Alvin Casady 1873-1929 # 73087683.

Orville Glenn Cassidy was born May 11, 1903 in Jefferson County to J.A. Cassidy and Elma Greeson.

Orville Giltner Cassidy 1903-1985 is buried in Golden Gate # 3559544.

Herbert W. Dixon had married Jennie Gill, divorced by 1930, then Gladys C. 1904-1995 buried in Fort Morgan # 76130895. Herbert has two stones in Morgan County, one in Brush with Jennie, another ifn Fort Morgan with Gladys.
