Sigourney,{Keokuk County, Iowa}; born in Delaware, county New York, May 1, 1807; when quite young his parents moved to Licking county, Ohio; there he was raised on a farm; he came to this State and county in 1854, and located on the place which he now occupies, and which consists of seventy acres of good land, in June 1839, he married Miss Anna Strather[sic], a native of Virginia; she was born in 1810; in 1850 she died, leaving nine children: Emeline, John s., Charles A., Robert B., Wilford W., Hannah, Malinda J., Margaret S. and Jacob; lost four; Benjamin B., Anna, Hannah and Robert B. who died in the war; he was a member of the Eighth Iowa Infantry; Mr. B. is a member of the M. E. church."

"JACOB S. FRITZ was born in Allen county, Ohio, on January 31, 1846, and afterwards moved to Keokuk, Iowa, where he was educated in the public schools. He came to Colorado in 1879, locating at Leadville. where he engaged in leasing, going to Aspen in 1885, and remaining there until the following year, when he went to Glenwood Springs, where he had charge of the postoffice for about a year under the Democratic regime. He was elected to the office of assessor of Garfield county for one term, at the expiration of which he located in Denver and subsequently at Greeley, where he married Mrs. M. Azdell. After a short stay at Greeley Mr. Fritz again went to Aspen, where he was employed as a letter carrier. In 1895 he was removed and then went to Victor, Colo., where he found employment in various capacities about the postoffice. He again moved to Greeley in 1902, and he has since been employed in the sugar beet factory there. In the memorable Adams-Peabody contest before the Fifteenth general assembly Mr. Fritz was appointed to the responsible position of watcher of the ballot boxes. He has a good army record made as a member of the Fourth Iowa infantry, and was one of the organizers of Garfield Post, G. A. R. Mr. Fritz has several times been honored in the way of election and appointment to office, being once vice commander of the Grand Army and second lieutenant of Co. D, Leadville, known as the Howell Guards. Mr. Fritz has many admirable qualities which endear him to the people of the county and the General Assembly of the State of Colorado." "

Jacob is a laborer in 1910 Denver, widowed, 64 born in Ohio, in a boarding house.
He was the brother of Catherine (Fritz) Wolfe, dying in Appanoose COunty Iowa on August 15, 1913. She was the daughter of Elder John and Minerva Beardsley Fritz, born in Hancock County, Ohio in 1843 and immigrating with parents to Keokuk County, Iowa. In 1913 her brother J.S. Fritz of Denver attended the funeral. One son was W. E. WOlfe of Denver.
He's still in a Denver boarding house in 1920.
Jacob was admitted to the Sawtelle veterans' hospital in 1925, discharged Septemer 21, 1926. He was widowed, nearest relative W.E. Wolfe of 1227 Rowan Avenue, Wilmington, California.
He had served from 1864 to 1865 in the 40th Iowa Infantry., enlisting at Muscatine, Iowa.

HE'S NOT LIKELY THE MINER DYING IN 1886,
October 23, 1879 "The Marian Mining company is a new organization which has declared its intention to speculate in the mines of Lake, Park, Summit and Gunnison counties by filing ite articles of incorporation with the secretary of state. The members of the board will be John W. Newton, Gilbert L. Havens and Jacob S. Fritz for the first year. The capital stock is given as five million dollars in ten dollar shares."
1885 Leadville

"Died of Apoplexy,
Denver, Dec. 21-Jacob S. Fritz, for twenty-five years a well known mining operator of Colorado and California, and owner of a controlling interest in the famous R. E. Lee mine, at Leadville, died at the St. James hotel this morning of apoplexy. His brother, who lives at Leadville, has been telegraphed for, and is expected in the morning."
January 1888 "Denver, Jan. 6. Judgo Miller to-day decided the question in dispute over Jacob Fritz's estate, by removing the executor, Ira Kimmerly, thereby leaving Judge O. J. Rowell, the administrator, in charge of the estate. This estate involves about 10,000 shares of the famous Robert E. Lee mining stock."
