Allen claimed a quarter in section 21, 10N 49W in 1871, originally granted by scrip in favor of New York State.


1882 Pueblo, Colorado "Mrs. A.E. Hayes, of the south side, continues very sick. She has been ill three weeks.

March 17, 1893 " Clayton J. Bailey has retired from the editorship of the Mesa County Mail and is succeeded by A. E. Hayes."

March 1902 Salida, Colorado "A. E. Hayes, who came to this vicinity recently from his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on account of the death of his brother Charles at Maysville, was in Salida Saturday. He has taken up his brother's unfinished work in school and will likely decide to remain permanently as he is very favorably impressed with the country, the climate and the people."

February 12, 1904 Salida, Colorado "A. E. Hayes of Maysville returned Friday from a trip to Iowa. He has decided to locate in that state and will engage in the business of selling Canadian farm lands, he having formerly been a resident of the Manitoba country. He expects to leave for Iowa in about a month."

April 28, 1911 "Mrs. Wm. Conklin, aged 29 years, died in Salida at midnight Monday night after a brief illness. Mrs. Conklin had only recently come here from Utah where her husband had been employed and had been at the home of one of her sisters. Mr. Conklin was informed by wire of the illness of his wife, but knew nothing of her death until he arrived in the city.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in Fairview cemetery. Besides her husband she is survived by four children, the eldest of these being 10 years of age. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Wolfrom, of Maysville, and seven brothers and sisters. Three sisters reside in Salida, Mrs. Lee Croddy, Mrs. Ben King and Mrs. Emma King. The two brothers live at Maysville. Mrs. A. E. Hayes, another sister of Colorado Springs, attended the funeral yesterday."

Salida Record 24 Apr 1911 " Lulu Wolfrom was born Nov. 1881 in Ohio to Eli and Susan Wolfrom. Before 1885 she traveled with her family to Chaffee County, Colorado. She was married to William Conklin 2 October 1899 in Buena Vista, Colorado at the age of 18. They made there home in Monarch where Mr. Conklin was employed by the Eclipse Mine. William and Lulu lived in Tucker, Utah in 1910 where he worked as a coal miner. " "

Abram A. Hayes claimed one, also in favor of New York State, in section 10 in 1871.

There were a dozen scrip claims in this area, all in 1871, for which we can not find the individuals in newspapers or census records
