On December 15, 1871, in favor of the State of Vermont, the land office assigned the northeast quarter of section 14, 10N 49W to Joseph.



POSSIBLE :
F.M. Wells wrote of Smith County, Kansas "In 1871 Concordia was a shanty town, Beloit likewise. Glen Elder was a mile up the creek with a stockade made of logs on end, twelve feet high.
I worked on the roads with Henry Ise and G.K. Baker in 1872. They were both single and bachelors on their claim "Z.T. Walred" and Albert Wells had a stockade on one of their claims."
