The Whiteley company was the largest manufacturer of reapers in the 1880's, with a 54-acre plant in Springfield, Ohio.
"By 1880 Whiteley's two man shop had become a giant trust producing more farm machinery than all the factories in Chicago put together. Its great plant on East Street in Springfield was said to be the second biggest industrial facility under one roof in the world, surpassed only by the Krupp Munitions Works in Prussia. At a meeting of some of his rival reaper barons, one competitor asked how they could improve business and another answered tersely,"Kill Whiteley!"

The owner was involved in a failed attempt to corner the wheat market on the Chicago Board of Trade. It could not compete with the merger of the McCormick, the Deering, and other manufacturers into the International Harvester Corporation.

Howard 55 and Ella 53, married 32 years, are farming in Iliff Precinct, Logan County, in 1910. They said Ella had not had any kids...

In 1930 Howard is a caretaker at the U.S. Grant boyhood home, 75, with mary E. 73.

(J. Arthur Conner 1887-1974 was the son of Hila Ann (Simmons) Conner, Ella's sister. Hila died in 1940 Portland, and her sister, Mrs. Ella Hancock of Cleveland, survived her.)

In 1932 Howard was a speaker at at the Sons of Union Veterans commeration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of U.ysses S. Grant. at the Grant Cottage, Point Pleasant, Ohio.

Harry Lorain Hancock, 19, married Ada Henderson on July 18, 1901 in Hamilton County, Ohio.
Ada was 19, daughter of Amos Henderson and Clara Newcurt.

She was born March 20, 1882 in Clermont County, living in Clermont County in 1900, with Amos 46, Clara M. 45, Bertha 19, Ada M. 18, and Janetta Hendrson 75.

Beatrice Hancock was born August 23, 1902 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

January 1904 Cincinnati " Mrs. II Ham-rx-k has as her guests Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hancock and Miss Beatrice Hancock."

They had Donald H. Hancock on January 2, 1905 in Clermont County, Ohio.

1915 Cincinnati "Alleging that Harry L. Hancock, an electrical engineer, failed to provide for her and their two children, and declaring that he has been too intimate with other women. Ada M. Hancock wants a divorce, with alimony and the custody of the children. She names one, a Mrs. Moore, of White Plains. N. Y. The couple were married July 18, 1901."

1926 Cincinnati "Mrs. Howard Hancock passed the weekend with Mrs. Arthur Conner, of New Richmond, Ohio. "

July 13, 1961 Asbury Park "Mrs. Nellie Hancock, 81, of 17 Campbell Ave., Port Monmouth, died vesterday at her home. She was the wife of the late Harry L. Hancock. Mrs. Hancock was born in Valhalla. N.Y. She had lived in Port Monmouth 20 years. She was a member of the Belford Methodist Church and its Women's Society of Christian Service.
Surviving are a son, Preston E. More, East Rockaway, L.I.; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest Rutt, Port Monmouth, and a brother, Howard Carpenter, Valhalla, N.Y. Burial will be in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn. "


"Berniece Ethel Coe, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Care One at King James, Navesink. She was born in Valhalla, Westchester Co., N.Y. and resided for most of her life in Port Monmouth.
She is predeceased by her mother, Nellie and step-father, Harold Hancock; her first husband, Ernest Rutt and second husband, Harry Coe.
Surviving are her loving brother, Preston "Bud" More of Hudson, Fla.; and a devoted goddaughter, Paulette Raub of Tinton Falls."

Donald is single in 1930 Brooklyn, New York.

Donald H. Hancock and Marie Struck married on January 29, 1933 in Kings County, New York.

Donald died November 1969, last residence Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Marie, born August 15, 1914, died Sept 27, 1995, last residence Colorado Springs.
