EMELIE'S FAMILY
Adam and Anne (Froelich) Lange, were born in Hessen, Germany, and the latter of whom was a child at the time of her parents' immigration to America, the family having settled in Clayton county, Iowa, in the early pioneer days and its name being perpetuated in that of the village of Froelich. Adam Lange was reared and educated in his native land and as a young man he came to the United States and established his home in Giard township, Clayton county, Iowa. Here he was employed at farm work for several years, his services in this capacity having been given on the farm of Mr. Schneider and Henry Froelich, both influential pioneer farmers of the county. He finally purchased the farm of one hundred acres on which his son Fred W., of this review, now lives, and with augmented prosperity he added fifty acres to his landed estate, which he developed into one of the fine farms of the county. Here he passed the residue of his life, secure in the high regard of all who knew him and attended by the gracious prosperity that resulted from his own honest and effective efforts. His death occurred about the year 1911 and his wife preceded him to eternal rest, both having been devoted members of the Evangelical Church, in which he served most effectively as Sunday-school superintendent. He did well his part in connection with civic and industrial activities in Clayton county and while he had no ambition for political preferment he gave staunch support to the cause of the Republican party. Of the children the firstborn was John, who is deceased; August is a resident of Portland, Oregon ; Henry maintains his residence at Rockford, Illinois; Carl is deceased; Fred W., of Clayton County, Iowa, was the fifth child; Julius resides at Rolfe, Pocahontas county, Iowa; Elizabeth is deceased; and Amelia is the wife of Harry B. Northcut, of Sterling, Colorado.

1946 Birmingham, Alabama - Nellie Loomis Lange, wife of John G. Lange 1855-1912
"Dear Uncle Harry,
Mother passed away very peacefully on the morning of Dec. 29th and was buried on the 31st, here in Elmwood Cemetery, a very beautiful place and in the same lot with my father and with her father and mother. On Dec 19th mother contracted a very severe case of flu and had so little resistance that she gradually became weaker and weaker until the end. I am thankful to be able to say that she experienced very little suffering. Mother received and enjoyed so much your letter of last October and also your Xmas card. She always looked forward to getting a letter from you. On Xmas Day, we decorated a small Xmas tree and put in her bedroom with all her presents around it - all of which she was able to enjoy.
With kind regards, Ray Lange"

1908 Sterling

August 1908 - the Republican Party was considering candidates for county treasurer.
" Harry B. Norcott is another aspirant to this high office who is deserving of the public support. He is competent and capable and honest, a life long Republican and one of the oldest citizens of our county, though a comparatively young man full of vigor and energy. Two years ago when a vacancy occurred in the Republican nomination for the office of Treasurer he accepted the nomination tendered by the committee, although he knew that the chances of election for any Republican under the circumstances were very remote. His candidacy deserves - and will doubtless receive - a careful and impartial consideration at the hands of the convention. "

October 1909 "The Purity Candy Kitchen, of which Messrs. H. B. Norcott and Fred Fawcett are the proprietors, has recently had completed an oven 10x12 feet inside, with a capacity of 600 loaves of bread at one time. The Purity Candy Kitchen is much more than a place where candy is made. They make good candy, but they do a lot else and among their other products bread has all the while held a prominent place. The sales had reached such porportions that a new oven was necessary and even now it is no safe bet that its capacity will be sufficient many months, the way the business is expanding. Besides the bakery goods and the confectionery the Purity has manufactured an excellent quality of ice cream and during the past summer supplied most of the places in Sterling where ice cream was served."
