"Lloyd Leon Gates, 72, of Thornton and formerly of Sterling, died Nov. 13, 2004, in Thornton.
Rosary service is Nov. 17 at 6 p.m., and a memorial mass is Nov. 18 at noon, both at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 3549 Navajo Street, in Denver.
Mr. Gates was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Sterling to Fred and Gertrude Gates.
On Nov. 27, 1957, he married Pauline Ertle in Sterling.
He attended school in Sterling, graduating in 1949. He served as a medic in the Air Force during the Korean war. Mr. Gates retired from Halliburton Resource Management after 22 years with the company.
He is survived by wife Pauline; daughters Susan Schotts and Stephanie Corey; son Fred Gates, all of Denver; sisters Betty Jobe, Sterling, and Rosetta Schmeeckle, Greeley; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. "
BETTY
"Betty D. Jobe, 92 of Sterling passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2 at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Kroeger officiating. The service will conclude at the church.
Betty was born in Sterling, Colorado on April 28, 1925 to Fred O. and Gertrude (MacGirvin) Gates. She attended grade school in Sterling through the 5th grade. Her family then moved to Crook where she attended school from 1937 to 1941. The family moved back to Sterling after her mother passed away. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1944 and then attended the Western Union School in Springfield, Missouri. She also worked at the Sioux Ordinance Depot near Sidney, Nebraska during World War II.
She married Gerald E. Jobe on October 10, 1945 in Sterling. The couple then moved to Boulder, where Gerald attended the University of Colorado. After Gerald graduated in 1949, they moved to Merino for two years. They moved back to Sterling in 1951 and have resided here ever since. In 1955, Betty went to work for Drs. Rogers & McDonald until 1968. In 1971, Betty and Gerald purchased the Pawnee Trading Post in downtown Sterling. They changed the business name to Pawnee Furniture in 1978. Betty, Gerald and their son, Harold (Skip) operated the business together until her retirement in 1988.
Betty was a member of the Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge #27 in Sterling, a charter member of the Sterling Does, and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. Betty loved her family and her home, her 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She loved to read, crochet, knit, cook and listen to good music. She loved people and never had a bad word for anyone.
Betty is survived by her sons Harold “Skip” (Michele) Jobe of Sterling, CO and Bill (Cindy) Jobe of Pueblo West, CO; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Rosetta Schmeeckle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry and her brother Lloyd L. Gates.
