WILLIAM'S FAMILY
James Weir came to the Sterling area from Canada in 1865, to work for the railroad. By 1866, he was a foreman, and moved his family to the area. The settlement was called Weir, when Julesburg #3 was founded in 1881.
In 1870, the Weld County census has James Weir as a railroad section foreman, 40, Elizabeth 40, Joseph 19, Jennie 17, William 13, Andrew 10, and Charles 1.
Later, Weir moved his family to Sterling, along with several of the Weir buildings, including the family home which was moved in sections.
The 1880 census - Weld County, of course, because there was no Logan County or Sedgwick County -
James is 49, Elizabeth 48, Andrew J. 19, Charles A. 11, Frank 8, Minnie May 7, and Robert G. 5.
The Weir family founded several business in Sterling, becoming prominent citizens of the community. Andy Weir's building was the first post office and his sister Edna, the first postmaster.
January 5, 1900 "Mrs. Edna W. Weir, the popular and efficient clerk and recorder of Logan county, returned home from Merino last night where she had spent a few days visiting her brother, T. K. Propst, and family."
WILLIAM
William J. Weir, born in Canada West to Joseph Weir and Elizabeth Granger, married Katie Baskins, 17, born in Pennsylvania to Wm. Baskins and Annie Snyder, in North Platte, Nebraska on November 30, 1879.
All parents were witnesses.
William Baskins, a corporal in K, 83rd Pennsylvania Infantry, ied July 21, 1889, a headstone to be placed in North Platte, Nebraska. FindGrave # 14938766 has him buried there 1820-1889, with Anna (Snyder) Baskins 1834-1896 # 14938688.
The Baskins were in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in 1870 William 50, Anna 36, Elizabeth 22, Emma 15, George 13 ,Martha 11, Charlies 10, Ella 8, CATHERINE 5, and Harriet 1.
March 3, 1896 North Platte "Mrs. Anna Baskins, mother of George and Chas. Baskins, died at her home in the Third ward this morning, after a rather prolonged illness. The deceased had been a resident of the city for about fifteen years and was a very estimable lady. The funeral will probably be held Thursday, although at this hour arrangements have not been fully completed. "
1897 North Platte "George Baskins, who was married at Williamsport, Pa., on Tuesday last to Miss Maggie Ranck, will arrive home to-night accompanied by his bride. The baggage of the couple came in last night and on one of the trunks is tied a lady's slipper and a large white muslin tie, evidence that Williams-port friends bade them a hearty good-bye. Mrs. Baskins is quite well known in town having visited here a time or two. The Tribune extends its congratulations to the newly wedded couple. "

November 1897 North Platte "It is whispered that Chas. Weir, the popular Third district conductor, will claim for his bride one of Cheyenne's fair belles on the 27th of this month, dwelling apartments having already been rented and furnished in this city."
William, 22, a railroad brakeman, and Katie 17, are in North Platte, Nebraska in 1880.

He's buried in Sterling - July 8, 1857- June 8, 1909, # 58307104.
One tree said that Katherine, born August 18, 1864 in Perry County, Pennsylvania, died in 1920 in Ogden, Utah.
Katherine's sister Carrie Johnson is in Pueblo, Colorado in 1930, 60, born in Pennsylvania, with John A. Johnson 58 born in Sweden. They have Willliam F. 35 born in Nebraska, and a grandson Clyde Scherman 20 born in Scolorado.
November 1897 North Platte "Willie Weir, who has been making his home with George Baskins, went to Florence, Colorado Sunday night, in which place his mother resides."
October 1901 North Platte "J. C. "Weir was in town yesterday taking out letters of administration in the estate of his late brother, Josiah Weir."
1912 North Platte "Mrs. Weir and daughters, of Denver, who were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weir this week, have returned home."
Wm. J. Weir is a railroad brakeman in 1880 Omaha, Nebraska, 22, born in Canada, with Kate J. 17 born in Pennsylvania, her parents also born in Pennsylvania.
His brother Charles wrote "W. J. Weir is trainmaster on the Midland Valley railway at Fort Smith, Arkansas."
1911 Sterling "Mrs. W. J. Weir and Miss Maude Mears of Fort Worth, Texas, who have visiting at the home of J. J. Weir in this city left today for their home."
