Eugene and Rachel (Walton) Ganzans, 8 North 50 West
This article appeared in the Kearney Hub in Kearney, NE Eugene Ganzans—Born in New Mexico, July 27, 1848; died Kearney, Neb., March 21, 1912. Met Miss Rachel Walton in Iowa and married her in Papillion, Neb., thirty-five years ago. The editor of the Hub had known ‘Gene Ganzans’ in a companionable way for many years and rarely missed an opportunity for a passing word or social chat. In this way there were revealed many fine qualities, a scope of observation and intelligent conclusion, and a philosophic cast of mind that were not apparent to the casual or unobserving acquaintance. As a laboring man, his tasks were conscientiously performed, and whatever his work it was well done , with loyal regard for the interests of his employers. He was industrious, quiet, honest, forehanded, and in every respect lived the part of a good citizen, which is the best that any man can do, no matter what his sphere or station. These are things that his old friends will love to remember, that may be a consolation to those who have been bereaved, and that we doubt not will serve as a “sheet anchor” for the young son whom he loved so dearly. Kindly memories always for ‘Gene Ganzans’ and an Easter blossom on the last resting place of our friend in the Silent City. ![]() If anyone has information on Eugene's location in the 1860-1870-1880 census, please let us know. |
