John Perry Rhodes passed away on June 6, 2008 in Westminster at the age of 90. John was born December 22, 1917, the son of Lee and Laura Rhodes. He grew up on their farm northeast of Haxtun and graduated from Haxtun High School in 1937. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1939 and was discharged in September 1944. On August 9, 1941, while on a three-day pass, he married Lois Lundberg at her parents’ home in Sedgwick County. In 1946, they moved to a farm near the Fairfield Church where they raised their family. They moved to Denver in 1965 where John worked for Gardner Denver. They returned to Haxtun in 1987 where they lived until 1997 when they moved to Covenant Village of Colorado in Westminster. John is survived by his wife; four daughters and one son, Betty and Ray Smith of Fowler, Douglas Rhodes of Denver, Mary Young of Aurora, Marlene and David Gastellum of Antioch and Virginia and Ruben Garcia of Phoenix. One sister, Ruth Snapp, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive him. His parents; brother, Clarence Rhodes; and grandchild, Scott Rhodes, preceded him in death. |
