In 1885 Washington County, Iowa, Samuel Bailey is farming, 61, born in Ireland, with Lizzie Kulp 22 and Howard Kulp 2, both single. William Bailey 21, Mary Bailey 16, and Myrtle Bailey 5 were all born in Washington County.

Annie "Sayers", born about 1865 to Nathan Sayers and Isabel Rockwood, married Samuel Bailey, son of Robert Bailey and Elizabeth Guire, born about 1832, in Washington County Iowa October 28, 1891.

In 1880 Washington County, Iowa, Nathan is 55, Florence 38, Fred 17, LUCRETIA 15, Frank 13, Hattie 12, Charles 9, Ina 5, and Mary 2.

In 1895 Washington County, Samuel is 71, married to Anna L. 30, with Clyde H. 8 and Florence J. 2.
Because Clyde and Florence are not mentioned in Samuel's obituary, they likely are Anna's kids, not his.

In 1900 Washington County, Iowa, Clyde "Baily" is with parents Samuel Dec 1823 Ireland, and Anna August 1866 Iowa, married 8 years. So Anna is a second or third wife.
The next household is Nathan and Florence Sayers.
Clyde was born Sept 1887, Jennie August 1892, both born in Iowa.
In 1910 Logan County, Clyde is a blacksmith 23, born in Iowa, living alone in Crook precinct.
Clyde claimed a quarter in 2, 9N 50W in 1913.


He registered for WWI with a Fleming address, born December 18, 1886 in Crawfordville, Iowa, farming, single.

Jennie was still in Washington County, Iowa in 1910, 17, with Samuel Bailey 87 and Anna 45, brother Mearle 2, all born in Iowa..

Per William Smith's obituary, he married Jennie in 1919 in Akron, Colorado.

The certificate said they both were from Yuma, and that he had been divorced in Wray October 8, 1916 or October 8, 1917. Florence had not been married. It said that
October 16, 1919 Yuma Colorado "W.E. Smith and family, Clyde Bailey and family, and Mrs. Will Bailey left for Redmond, Oregon on the noon train Tuesday."



In 1920 Clyde is in Deschutes County, Oregon, 34, with Anna Bailey 55 born in Iowa and sister Jennie Smith 28, married to William Smith 34 born in Kansas and four kids Opal 3 and Fern 1 were born in Colorado, Gerald 19 in Kansas, Murrel 11 in Iowa.

Grace Smith 13 and Orville 11 are staying with grandmother Sarah Wiley 75 in Cloud COunty in 1920, Their uncle Alfred Wiley 28 is farming.

Clyde is with the Smith family in 1930, too, 41, working at a planing mill.
William Smith is now married to Florence J. 38 born in Iowa, with step son Merrill G. 21 born in Iowa, Opal L. 13 born in Colorado, and Fern L. 11 born in Colorado. Opal and Fern were Smith in 1920 Cloud County....
Anna Lucretia (Sayre) Bailey 1865-1929 is buried in Eugene # 109989544.

August 4, 1935, Eugene "H. E. Slattery appointed administrator of estate of Anna L. Bailey, deceased."

Fern is buried in Eugene, Oregon # 82192421

Opal is buried in Eugene # 58116817 "A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene for Opel Leila Bailey Whittington of Eugene, who died Sept. 1 of age-related causes. She was 93.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1916, in Fleming, Colo., to William and Florence Bailey Smith.
She married Wendell Whittington on Sept. 4, 1937, in Eugene. He died Nov. 2, 2001.
She worked in a cannery and as a nanny before her marriage.
Survivors include a son, Wayne of Eugene; two daughters, Karen Farwell of Salem and Donna Stark of Eugene; a brother, Alvin Smith of Coos Bay; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Eugene.

Note: According to a family member, the informant for the obituary was in error when it was stated that she was born to Florence and Will E. Smith. "Will Smith raised her, but was always known to her and all family members as her stepfather."



Florence is buried in Eugene, too, # 28422021.

Merl G. Bailey 1908-1964 is buried in Eugene # 28422067, a World War II veteran.


In 1940 Deschutes County, Oregon, Clyde is 52, married to Mary L. 32 born in Oregon. Anna is 9, Martin C. 7, and Florence 4. Mary's father Martin O'Neil 77 widowed is with them.

February 1, 1944 Eugene, Oregon "At Sacred Heart General Hospital, Sunday, Jan. 30, to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. Bailey, Route A Eugene, a daughter."

Clyde registered for WWII with an address of Lone Rock, Oregon, reference Lulen Bailey. He was working at Highland Lumber Company.

Clyde Harlem Bailey 1886-1983 is buried in Lane County, Oregon # 109990372, with May Louise (O'Neil) Bailey 1908-1996.

October 22, 1983

This might be another Clyde Bailey - June 26, 1950 Eugene Oregon "At least 12 of the 15 members of the family gathered for a birthday party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bailey at Smithburg, 5 miles west of here, are missing. Only one member of the Bailey family is known to be alive. The body of Mrs. Bailey, about 60, has been recovered, and another body, believed to be that of a five-months-old grandson, also has been found. The Bailey home was directly in the path of the flood. Sheriff Paul B. Davis said the house was carried nearly 2 miles down."
