Edith (Hall) Baker, daughter Edith (Baker)(Travis) (Maxwell) Brophy, sons Leonard and Andrew Baker, 9 North 50 West
In 1870 Kankakee, Illinois, Edith is 14, born in England, with parents Edwin 43 and Elisabeth 34.One family member says that Edith's father was Sgt. Andrew Bake, a Civil War paticipant, "ran off" with their eldest , Edith, when he was 38, she was 18. "Sgt. Baker married Edith Hall in 1874 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, IA. and they had 7 children: 1-Leonard (never married, buried next to his mother in Riverside Cemetery, Sterling,CO); Leonard Grant Baker registered for WWI in Proctor, Colorado, born April 17 1875, farming, with Edyth Baker as his nearest relative. 2-Rosa Baker (Fell from the wagon and was buried out on the prairie somewhere around eastern Colorado. Family story says that they were traveling with cowboys, who picked wildflowers and arranged them in her hair before they buried her. They put rocks on the grave to mark it but many years later the rocks were not found). The 1880 Census shows "A." and Edith Baker living in Kansas City (Wyandotte County),KS. 3-Edith Mae (b.22-July-1881 in KS, d.6-Jun-1921) 4-Andrew Baker II (b.25-Sep-1893, d.7-Mar-1959) 5,6 and 7: Myrtle Evelyn; Grace; and Maude (order unk - the 3 younger children died and were buried on the prairie, location unknown.) |
