About Morgan County

Morgan County was formed in 1889 from 36 townships in the southeast corner of Weld County. The county seat is in Fort Morgan.

The two large towns in the county, Ft Morgan and Brush, were platted in 1881 when the Burlington RR laid track along the south side of the Platte. They became market centers for the surrounding agricultural area.

2000 county population was just over 27,000.
