Irene M. Burchett, the daughter of Peter and Tony Johanek McGuinnis, was born at Esbon, Kansas December 17, 1906. She attended school in Kansas.
She married Joseph Pittsenberger on April 22, 1926 in Esbon. They moved to Yuma and lived there until 1931 when they moved to Haxtun. In 1932 they moved to a farm southwest of Holyoke and lived there until retiring to Holyoke in 1957. Irene worked as a nurse’s aid in the hospital in Holyoke for 20 years.
Joseph died in 1972. She married Wilbur Burchett in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 21, 1974. They have made their home in Holyoke since that time.
Irene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Alta & Rosary Society.
Survivors include husband, Wilbur Burchett of Holyoke; daughters, Euletta Meusborn and husband Dwaine of Holyoke and Patricia Edwards and husband Tom of Gardengrove, California; son Ronald Pittsenberger and wife Jeri of Yucaipa, California; brother, Lawrence McGuinnis and wife Helen of Loveland; step daughters, Beverly Tumbleson of Longmont and Judy Spelts of Evergreen;
sister-in-law Carmen McGuinnis of Lamy, New Mexico; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph and brother Edward.
Irene passed away Sunday, January 28, 1990 at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke at the age of 83.
Recitation of rosary was Tuesday, January 30 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, January 31, 1990 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Father Jerry Young officiating. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
