Elmer Dean Rutz

Elmer Dean "Shorty" Rutz was born on 9 May 1926 to Ruth (Spaulding) and Otto Rutz on their farm six miles north of Otis, Colo. He died on 28 Nov 2015 at the Yuma District Hospital in Yuma, Colorado, aged 89.

At the age of 17 he joined the US Army. After serving about two years his father suffered a heart attack so he was discharged to come home and do the farming.

Elmer and Elaine Sherard were married on 16 Aug 1947. They lived on the farm north of Otis where the first three children were born, Delores "Dodie" Rutz-Keim, Darrell Rutz, and Dwane Rutz.

They moved to LaCrosse, Washington where 4th child, daughter Deana was born. They lived in LaCrosse for two years then moved to Ritzville, Washington where 5th child, daughter Doreen was born.

The family moved back to their old farm in Colorado in 1960 where they lived for the next fifty years. Due to declining health they moved into Otis. On 6 Oct 2104 they moved into The High Plains Manor in Yuma, Colo. Shorty and Elaine shared sixty-eight years together.

Those preceding Elmer in death were his parents, Ruth and Otto Rutz; daughter, Diana Rutz and sister, Rosealine Butler.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Elaine, his children: Delores Keim, Darrell Rutz, Dwane Rutz, and Doreen Lucero, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one sister, Jane Harms, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

There will be a memorial Service on Thursday, December, 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel in Baucke Funeral Home in Yuma, Colorado with CRE Randall Feather officiating. Interment will be in the Yuma Cemetery.
