James Edward Stinson

 James E. Stinson cash-claimed eighty acres in 5N 47W (about fifteen miles north of Charles) in 1914.  AND because Zelda Yates - a few miles east - had a grandmother STINSON, they could be cousins.

.In 1880 Knox County, Missouri Thomas and Hanora Stinson have Thomas 17, Mary E. 16, John W. 14, Michael 6, James E. 4, and Emma 2.

Thomas died February 9, 1885, and is buried in Saint Joseph Old Cemetery, Edina, Missouri.

In 1900 Knox County, Missouri Nora Stinson 50, has James 23, Alice M. 22, and Maggie S. 18.

In 1910 Sterling are James Stenson, with his mother Nora. - no occupation

James registered for WWI in Sterling, saying he was born September 24, 1874, nearest relative Nora.

The James E. Stinson in the 1940 Sterling census is 65, born in Missouri. a real estate broker with Nellie 65, Illinois.

Buried in Sterling are James Edward Stinson - 10/21/1875 - 6/10/1952

Charles H. Stinson

One Charles - per Minnesota,  was born in Wrightstown in 1863, the son of Hugh and Patricia Leslie Stinson.

In 1880 Stevens County, Minnesota Hugh and Lettie Stinson have sons William J. 20, Leslie 19,  Charles C, 15, John F, 14, daughter Adelide V. 13, sons George 11 and Fred 9, and daughters Jenny 7, Alferette 3, and Lettice 1.

In 1885 Stevens County Letitia is 46- with Boyd 23, Charles 22, John 19, Adelaide 17, George 16, Freeman 14, Jennie 12, Alfarette 8.

Charles cash-claimed a quarter in 8, 2N 47W in 1889. 


A Charles H. Stinson married December 17, 1890 in Minnesota, age 26 - saying his spouse was 24.

In 1895 Stevens County Minnesota Charles is 31, an engineer, married to Francis 28.  Listed with them is Horace Douglas, 11, and eleven-month-old Georgia.  All four born in Minnesota.

In the 1905 South Dakota census Charles Stinson is 41, born in Minnesota, and said he had arrived in South Dakota in 1902.and had lived in the U.S. all his life.

1910  Watertown Charles H. Stinson, 43, born in Minnesota, has been married four years to Frances 40, Wisconsin.  They have Horace H. stepson 25, Minnesota, and Georgia, stepdaughter 15 Minnesota.  Mother-in-law Adelia Dickinson, widowed 72, Ireland, niece Winnifred Stinson 13 Minnesota, and a bunch of roomers.

October 1920 Horace H. Douglas and Doris Johnson, both of Minneapolis, were married in Clark County, South Dakota.

In the 1920 Fargo, N.D. census Horace and Doris are married - he's a street-car conductor.

1920 Watertown, Frances, 52, said she was widowed.  With her is Georgia 25 and Charles, grandson, 7

Georgia Stinson, 19 married William Allan Barry of Canada in Watertown October 7, 1913 - so she must have divorced.

In 1930 Nelson County, North Dakota Charles H. 65, married but no spouse listed, is managing a machine company,  boarding with the Fred Cady family.  A Charles H. Stinson, grandson, 17, Canada is also boarding.

In 1930 Carver County, Minnesota a "Francie" Stinson, 59, with son Douglas Stinson, 40, born Minnesota

In 1940 Washington County, Minnesota young Charles is married to Gertrude, both 27 and hey have two daughters, 4 and 2, both born in Minnesota.  Charles, father, 77, is also with them, still saying he was married.

One Charles died September 18, 1942 in Stillwater, Washington County, Minnesota.

Winnipeg, Canada October 1, 1971 On September 23, 1971 at Winnipeg General Hospital, Mrs. Gerogia S. Leslie, belove wife of Norval W. Leslie...Mrs. Leslie was born in Morris, Minnesota, coming to Winnipeg as a bride in 1921.  Besides her husband, she is survived by her son Norval W., Jr. of Winnipeg, ....one stepbrother Charles H. Stinson of Stillwater, Minnesota..


So there are at least three CHARLES STINSON - Oregon, Minneapolis and South Dakota.

The Charles H. Stinson, of Watertown, South Dakota, who filed a patent application in 1919 for a tractor, seems the most likely one.
