Gerald R. Scofield of Boulder died of natural causes on Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in Boulder. He was 88. Born Sept. 15, 1914, in Joes , he was the son of James P. Scofield and Cora L. Weaver Scofield. He married June Rose on June 6, 1937, at her parents' home in Burlington. Mr. Scofield moved to Boulder County in 1946 from Grand Junction. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics at the University of Colorado, where he lettered in track and field four times and basketball three times. He also earned a master's degree in education from CU. Mr. Scofield owned Game Lines Sporting Goods in Boulder for 25 years, served as superintendent of schools in Stratton for eight years, taught education and history at Mesa Junior College for two years and served as assistant director of admissions at CU for two years. He retired in 1974. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Boulder for 56 years, serving as an elder for two terms, and a member of the Masons, the Elks and the Kiwanis clubs, and the Boulder Country Club since 1947. He was an honorary life member of the CU Director's Club. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and serving as scorekeeper at CU basketball games for 25 years. Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a son, Jerry Scofield II of Laguna Hills, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Cartwright of Columbia City, Ind.; two brothers, Lawrence Scofield of Wray and Alton Scofield of Fort Collins; two sisters, Dorothy Williamson and Alma Russell, both of Albany, Ore.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford Scofield and Delmar Scofield. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Boulder, 1820 15th St. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be at 2:45 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in his name to the University of Colorado Foundation, P.O. Box 1140, Boulder, CO 80306. Howe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
