Yuma County Pioneer Photographs:

Arthur Morrison

Arthur cash-claimed a quarter in 34, 2N 48W - two miles south of Yuma, near many other cash-claimants.

That land was subject of a suit by Charles M. Eastman regarding ownership of that land. Schneider Bros. had that land in the 1920 plat book.
Charles M. Eastman's heirs in a 1925 notice were Ollie Agler and Emma Conner of Elgin, Nebraska, daughters, sons Eugene S. Eastman of Englewood, Colorado, and Gurly D. Eastman of Pomoca, California.

ONE POSSIBLE

Maybe the Arthur W. Morrison from Illinois, son of William H. Morrison. When William died in St. Louis in 1895, his will left house to his wife Bridgetta, and funds to six children - Laura, Ellen, Lidia, Lottie, Charles and Arthur.
(Charles was a retail merchant in Iola Kansas 1900 and 1910
In 1860 Hancock County, Illinois, William is 44, Hannah 40, Leonara 17, Ellen 14, Charles A. 6, Arthur W. 4, and Lidia A. 2.
In 1870 Hancock County, William is 45, Lenora 37? Bridgetta 22 (this must be his new wife), and Lydia 11.

In 1880 Hancock County, Illinois, Arthur Morrison is farming 23, and sister Ellen Leonard, 33, is a housekeeper.
Both were born in Illinois.

Arthur Morrison of Oklahoma City married Miss Mary Spangler of Clark City, Clark County, Missouri, in June 1891.

In 1900 Oklahoma City, Arthur is a wholesale fruit dealer, born May 1856 in Illinois, married nine years to Mary May 1864 Missouri. Her brother Joseph Spangler born June 1878 in MIssouri is a salesman.
They're alone in 1910 and 1920 Oklahoma CIty, and in 1930 are in Greeley, Colorado, alone. Arthur is a produce shipper.

Arthur 1856-1939 is buried in Eaton, Colorado, per # 73775904. The tombstone has a space for a spouse, but none is listed.

Mary S. Morrison is in Greeley in 1940, 75, born in Missouri.

Neither Arthur nor Mary are listed in the Weld County Master Index, so they weren't in the newspaper.

Mary's parents Samuel 1824-1910 # 31009536 and Mary Ann 1833-1911 "who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Morrison " are buried in Oklahoma CIty.
One tree said Mary died in Oklahoma City in 1955.

The Arthur R. Morrison who married Clara E. Skiles in Denver October 16, 1907 is too young. This one was born in 1881.

In 1890 Dawes County, Nebraska, Arthur Morrison is on the veterans schedule, serving 1864-1865 in H, 2nd Iowa Cavavalry.
