When the county menu leaves the site
The front page's county select mixes paths on this site with addresses on other hosts. The visible name can be a Colorado county either way. The value is what shows where the option goes. The note on the front page describes the select as a whole. This note lists the values that are not a short relative path.
Nine options on other hosts
Arapahoe points at https://sites.google.com/site/arapahoecountycogenweb/home. Denver points at https://sites.google.com/site/denvercountycogenweb/. Both are sites.google.com. The Arapahoe path says arapahoecountycogenweb. The Denver path says denvercountycogenweb.
Clear Creek points at http://usgenwebsites.org/COClearcreek/. Gilpin points at http://usgenwebsites.org/COGilpin/. Hinsdale points at http://theusgenweb.org/co/hinsdale/index.htm. Jefferson points at http://sites.rootsweb.com/~cojefftp/. Las Animas points at http://www.roadsofthepast.com/. Morgan points at http://hometownchronicles.com/co/morgan/. Pueblo points at http://azgila.com/pueblo/.
Those nine are the county options whose values are on another host. The visible words are still the county names. The host is in the value, which a reader does not see in the closed select until the option is chosen.
The note does not describe the pages at those hosts. It records the addresses the front page stores in the option tags. The county table still has rows for these names, with seats and coordinators, on counties.html.
Clear Creek's host is usgenwebsites.org and the path is COClearcreek. Gilpin uses that host and the path COGilpin. Hinsdale uses theusgenweb.org. Jefferson uses sites.rootsweb.com.
Three absolute addresses that stay here
Saguache points at https://cogenweb.com/saguache/. Washington points at https://cogenweb.com/washington/. Yuma points at https://cogenweb.com/yuma/. The scheme and the host are written out. The host is cogenweb.com. They are not relative paths like adams/, and they are not the nine outside hosts.
Montrose has no slash. elpaso/ joins El Paso into one word and keeps the slash. County Sites at the top of the control is only a hash mark.
A relative path and an absolute path can name the same site. The select uses both habits. Adams is adams/ with no scheme. Yuma is a full https address. The note keeps that difference.
Montrose is the value montrose, with no trailing slash. El Paso, the visible name, has the value elpaso/ with no space and with a trailing slash. Custer points at custer/Custer_County_COGenWeb_Project.html. Archuleta points at archuleta/index.html. Broomfield points at broomfield/index.html. Cheyenne points at cheyenne/index.html.
The first option, County Sites, has the value #. It is not a county and not an outside host. It is the placeholder at the top of the control.
What the select is not claiming
An outside address is not a statement that the county has no page in this archive. It is the value the option tag holds. Clear Creek's value is on usgenwebsites.org. The table on counties.html still has a Clear Creek row, 1861, Original County, seat Georgetown.
Las Animas as a menu name points at roadsofthepast.com. Las Animas is also the county seat printed for Bent in the table, and the parent printed for Baca. The same two words are a menu target, a seat, and a parent, in three different cells. The menu note is only about the option value.
Hinsdale's outside value ends in index.htm. Archuleta's on-site value ends in index.html. htm and html are both used. The select does not explain the difference.
The 1861 list includes Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, and Pueblo, which are among the nine outside menu values, and also includes counties whose menu values stay on this site. Membership in the seventeen is not what chooses the host.
htm closes the Hinsdale value. html closes the Archuleta value. The select stores both file endings.
The second menu is a different control
Below the county select, a site directory has its own options. Some of those also leave the site: CO Archives to http://usgwarchives.net/co/cofiles.htm, USGenWeb Archives to http://usgwarchives.net/, COKids to a rootsweb address, Tombstone Trans. to usgwtombstones.org, Obituaries to obits.coloradogravestones.org, WorldGenWeb to worldgenweb.org. The directory note lists those labels. They are not county options. They sit in the next control.
Military uses this host and the path military/index.html. A full address can appear in either select. The county names and the directory labels remain different lists.
Military in that second control points at https://cogenweb.com/military/index.html, an absolute address on this host, like the Yuma option in the county control. The pattern of mixing relative and absolute is in both menus.
The county control's job is the county names. Nine of them store another host. Three store this host in full. The rest store a short path. County Sites stores #.
None of these values is a hotel. The select is a list of genealogy entry points, some here and some elsewhere, as the tags print them.
Reading a value against a row
Denver's option leaves for sites.google.com. The county table includes a Denver coordinator cell, Denise Wells, with the subject Denver COGenWeb. The menu and the table are both on this site. The menu value is the other host. The table cell is the name and the mailto.
Arapahoe's option leaves for sites.google.com as well. The table's Arapahoe row says 1861, Original County, Littleton, Denise Wells. The front page's seventeen include Arapahoe. Three places, three kinds of fact: a menu host, a table row, a name in the 1861 sentence.
Jefferson's option is sites.rootsweb.com. Jefferson is also one of the seventeen. The table has an OPEN FOR ADOPTION link for a Jefferson row. Menu host, 1861 membership, and a table cell are three lines. The note does not fold them into one.
The practical reading is the value attribute. If it begins with http, the option names a host. If it is a short path, it stays on this site. If it is #, it is the label County Sites.
Denver's address on sites.google.com and Denise Wells's mailto are different strings. The menu stores a host. The table stores a name.
